Candie arrived at the Emergency Clinic at 1 AM one Saturday morning after her owners found her seizuring. They were met by Dr. Stacy Armstrong, a second year Critical Care resident.
She was medicated to quiet her seizures and put on supportive therapy. Later that day, Candie was examined by Dr. James Cook, our staff Neurologist. Dr. Cook recommended a Cat Scan to better assess what was happening inside Candie‰s skull. The CT was done that day and revealed a mass inside Candie's brain. Consulting with both Dr. Cook and Dr. Ron Burk, our staff Radiologist and Radiation Oncologist, the Beskies elected to begin radiation therapy.
Candie came to the hospital 3 days a week for 6 weeks. Her adorable face and very sweet personality made her an instant hit with all the staff! Better yet, Candie responded to the treatments almost immediately! She was very playful and always begging for a snack after her treatments. I am thrilled to report that Candie returned for a checkup recently and is doing superbly! After Dr. Burk examined her, she had to parade through the hospital saying hello to all her old friends. The Beskies report that Candie is "her old self", and Drs. Cook and Burk remain optimistic for Candie's successful long-term outlook.
